Tongyeong Ogwangdae is a mask dance handed down in Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do. It seems to have been born of Changwon Ogwangdae in around 1900. The troupe of performers visited house to house from the 2nd to 14th of January and did Jisinbapgi (a ritual of burying evil spirits), and using money donated, they prepared a mask dance and held Pabanggut and Owangdae Talnori on the 14th of January. In particular, they hand a mask dance as a part of Saddo Noreum (Governor Play) in early April in Spring.
The procession of Saddo Noreum proceeded in order of flags, three Tongins, eight fairies firing squibs, a sedan chair borne by four men, patrolmen, officials, four horses, a sedan chair borne by eight men, which is for the governor, eight dancing fairies, patrolmen, entertainers, townspeople and the troupe of Ogwandae performers. The procession travelled from Sebyeonggwan through Myeongjeonggol and to the lawn ground behind Yonghwa Temple in Mireuk Mountain. Then, a mock trial was held to try offenders, and a mask dance was performed over night.
Masks were made of gourd, wood, bamboo, etc., and they were all burnt after performance.
