Gasan Ogwangdae is a mask dance handed down at Gasan-ri, Chukdong-myeon, Sacheon-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, where was Jochange (a government storehouse for grain collected as tax). Grain collected from seven nearby districts was brought to the port, from which it was shipped to Jemulpo through the West Sea. Thus, Gasan Ogwangdae is also called 'Jochang Ogwangdae.'
From the 2nd to 14th of January, a troupe of performers visited house to house and did Jisinbapgi, and on the 15th, they performed Ogwangdae Talnori in the courtyard of the storehouse.
Including the Mundungi (Leper) Episode with a cripple's dance, the Yeongno Episode in the form of identifying characters, Malddugi's expanded dialogue and the Blind Man's chanting, Gasan Ogwangdae has originality and local color as a mask dance in Gyeongsangnam-do, but it has many differences from other Yaryu and Owangdae. That is, the Obangsinjangmu Episode, the appearance of five lepers in the Mundungi Episode and Jinoguigut in the Halmi Yeonggam Episode are not found in other Ogwangdae or Yaryu but Gasan and Jinju Ogwangdae.
Obangsinjang-tal, Posu-tal (hunter), Moliggun-tal (chaser), Halmi-tal, Ongsaengwon-tal, etc. are made by cutting hardboard. Mundungi-tal (leper) and Malddugi-tal are made of gourd, Yeongno-tal and Yeonggam-tal of bamboo baskets, and Eodingi of paper clay.
