The Chinese Lion Dance is called Samu, Sadeung or Musaja. The Lion Dance has been handed down in all areas of the country. From old times, Chinese regarded a lion as an auspicious incarnation, so they performed the Lion Dance in many localities during traditional festivals. A lion was known as a creature expelling ghosts and bringing in good luck. In Gwandong Province, the Lion Dance is called 'Seosaimmun' (An auspicious lion is in front of the gate).
