Michoacan Danaza De Los Viejitos in Mexico
The mask used in Danaza De Los Viejitos performed in the Michoacha district, Mexico. The dance containing a religious ritual originates from a religious party held in SantaCruz at Christmas in order to celebrate Jesus Christ's birth and the Holy Mother. This dance, continuing overnight, expresses a respect for old men and the dead. Dancers walk tiresomely supported by a crude stick as if they were weighed down from tide and time and rheumatism. All the scenes display laughter and joy because they are strikingly contrasted with other dancer's vigorous steps.
